Dumb Blonde Dahlia Question - Cut Flowers

shop-a-holic, Dec 17, 10:18pm
I just have a question for Dahlia Lovers.
Will a flower still continue to open and fill itself, if it is cut from the plant when only half open?
Thanking you in advance.

Certainly will. Don't forget flowers that florists get are cut before the flowers are open for obvious reasons.

I knew a dumb blonde once. We were walking along the footpath and I said "look a dead bird". She looked straight up and said where?

There's a trick about helping dahlia flowers last & it's either dip the freshly cut stems in boiling water or burning them, or something like that. Might pay to have a little google. You got me wondering which it was so I found this

Thanks so much, samaya! Yes, I had a worldwide ride via youtube today. but your thoughtful second link, provided me the answer.

"Choose flowers that are open or nearly open because the buds will not open once they're cut."

Voila!

Hey, glad I could help.

I was always taught dahlias need to be stem sealed - boiling water, or an open flame.
