Morrison electric lawnmower 380mm

rav413, Nov 20, 3:43am
I bought this new a couple of months ago and the second timeI used it, a bit broke off from the plastic undercarriage. It has broken off some more although my lawn is not rough and has no stones etc in it.I haveused the same model for 4-5 years with no problems;eventually the switch and bladegave up.The local agent said "not under warranty" because I had hit something.Of course, but probably only grass, it is so frail!I have written to Masport/Morrison with no reply yet (a week ago) and asked for refund or credit on a sturdier mower.I will contact the Consumer Affairs if no joy.Anyone else had problems!

IMHO a mower undercarriage should not break after two months use.Clearly not fit for purpose.Go back to where you bought it and tell them to read the legislation and that you want to reject the mower and want you money back.Don't leave the store till you get your money.

morrison electric lawnmower .Only one worth having looks like a real old school mower and is 100% the same apart from its power. You want the one that takes a car battery.all of the rest are trash.

great feedback folks, I appreciateyour comments.I have written and emailed Masport/Morrison asking for a refund and enclosing photo of my pristine lawn.Still no reply.I will contact the Consumer Affairs. Will keep you posted.

Good luck with Consumer Affairs!A four week wait so far for me for an email reply from them, and their call centre is just avoicemail telling you to read their website (good) or ask Citizens Advice (not so good in my experience.)I just wanted clarification of a point before tackling the manufacturer myself, but it seems they've now toughened up, probbaly inundated.

Make sure you include the words "Consumer Guarantees Act" in every sentence when putting any complaint in writing, and they usually buckle. Has always worked for me in the past.

Do Masport/Morrison still make mowers in NZ anymore!
Or are they Chinese-made now! If so, that's a good indicator as to where Masport's once-great quality is nowadays.

You have to approach the retailer when a product is faulty, not the manufacturer, according to Consumer Guarantees Act.Go back to where you bought it from, and they can chose to Repair / Refund / Replace.

kaddiew, Nov 25, 12:27am
Yes, try the retailer, but not correct about the manufacturer.

Quote from Consumer Affairs for businesses re The Act:

Consumers can claim from either the retailer or the manufacturer. They are most likely to claim from retailer because retailers are usually more accessible. You will breach the fair Trading Act if you suggest to a consumer that they have to go to the retailer instead of you." And so on

And if the fault is considered serious, the consumer, not the retailer or manufacturer gets to choose the type of solution.

Damn - had pinned my hopes on Consumer Affairs.I will take your advice and approach the retailer (although I bypassed them because I took the mower to an approved repair agent in Chch).Thanksfor your advice kaddiew and ninya. Will keep you posted.Made on another planet with no grass so they had no idea really!

And insist on a refund, not credit, so you can then shop around for a new mower. They are not allowed under The Act to fob you off with a credit. Good luck!

i bought a little ozo electric lawnmower it has crashed and banged and eaten stones and bigger than twiggs and nothing has broken, cracked or failed on it.

rav413, Nov 25, 4:33am
Yeh, the same with my previous morrison 380mm electric mower.

rav413, Nov 25, 4:42am
Yeh, I don't really want a replacement or repairs for obvious reasons but felt that any positive response was better than none!I can't actually believe that Grossmans (the repair agent in Chch) said it was due to my misuse.By the way it is still in their workshop (I hope) while I wait for some response fromthe manufacturer.Luckily I have bought a good 2nd hand push mower in the meantime.Anyway, tomorrow off to Mitre 10 (I find them excellent to deal with). Will see what they have to say before I attack Consumer Affairs.

rav413, Nov 26, 3:39am
went back to Mitre 10 and encountered a very unsympathetic salesman who said he had sold "hundreds" of this model with no problems and trusted Grossmqns' judgement implicitly!Felt pretty gutted but just arrived home to hear a message from him saying Grossmans are waiting for the "part" to arrive and will be replaced at no cost.Don't know yet who is bearingthe cost - Masport of Grossmans. Will ask later!

kaddiew, Nov 26, 4:23am
Good on you - maybe not the outcome you wanted, but at least it's a repair you don't have to pay for.

BUT if it happens again, or there's a new fault, DON'T take it to the local agent, who will only quote the warranty to you. Take it straight to Mitre10, tell them it's now serious fault time under the CGA (which overrides the warranty), and refuse to leave until they refund you. :)

You have been a tower of support kaddiew (and others). Not really what I wanted, but as you say, at least it is positive.Someone is taking note.Keep you posted. Thanks
