I have a three wheel one here , Was used by the council for road side clearing , cuts but does not catch the grass.
How big an area are you mowing ? .
The one that I have , is chain driven shaft onto both wheels, moves well , and is easy to steer into corners, etc.
Drive engaging lever is on the handles, left hand side I think.

Do try before you buy. There is a range of speeds available between different makes that may not suit your ground conditions or your physical ability. A good retailer will have, or get a demo model to try.

I had one for years, bloody great machine. I sold the house where I used it and on the last cut before I handed over to the new owners the machine laid down and went to motor mower heaven. It knew there was no need for it at the new place so it just blew a piston and died.Sad story but true.

I will buy new in the hope of trouble free mowing for a couple of seasons.
Thanks to all for your input, the Toro ones look good, price wise, less than half price of a masport or Honda.

There is a US Consumer.or review of the Toro, they thought it was pretty good. Google will find it.

We bought a key start self propelled John Deere mower earlier tis year. But its too heavy for me to use! So thats a grand wasted!

We have a Toro. We have not been too happy with it. Recently had a service and the guy at the shop reckoned he can see why its not that great. It gets clogged with grass easily so a lot of stopping.

The early model 20 inch cut self propelled rover with the chain drive system were far better then anything else on the market , a basic trouble free drive system, they catch wet grass and have a decent sized catcher .

Self propelled are good as long as you don't have to pull them back(from under trees)as this takes a bit more effort. I have a Toro, I won it , but have 6 trees on my front lawn, so not a straight forward lawn.
