Maybe your blade needed sharpening. My battery mower cuts my kikuyu grass just fine. Just don't let it get too long.

I recently was in the market for a new mower, and it was clear that the greenies have hijacked the marketing. when the first item listed on the spec sheet for the mower is how quiet it is !
Basically a mower only has to settings. full revs and cutting height as low as possible. if you are not creating a dust storm and pulling The grass out by its roots, you are not doing it correctly

How did you get on with your lawnmower? What brand and type did you get and is it any good? The prizes on this website are very low, so I consider buying there.

Certa 36V Electric Lawn Mower with 4.0Ah Battery Pack for $239 NZD (and free post from Australia). No longer on Dick Smith or Kogan websites. A bit underpowered. A bit flimsy. The mulching option is a bit laughable. Catcher is fine. Cuts well. Battery lasts about 30-40 mins. Recharge in 3-5 hrs.

Just get him another small mower that can mow the back section and leave it down there at the bottom of the steps!

So only about the size of double garage surely a hand mower would do for that small area. mown often to keep it short and manageable.

I'm searching for a new lawn mower for my father who is almost 80 but loves mowing the lawn. He currently has a petrol powered I think 4 stroke. I have a flymo that he loves for doing steep areas but he doesn't like it for the flat areas as it leaves the grass behind. Also to get to his back section the lawnmower has to go down some steps and I've noticed he is finding that harder to do but won't use the flymo on the flat part. Does anyone have any advice about a light weight one with a catcher that is reliable? He is pretty fussy with his lawn and I want him to still be able to do it!

My next door neighbour has a battery powered mower that is quite light in contrast to a petrol one.

timbo69, Dec 28, 6:14pm
how many acres you talking?

planespotterhvn, Dec 28, 6:15pm
consumer noted that many battery electric lawn mowers are just as heavy as the petrol ones, as they have a battery which a petrol one does not have.

The amount of area that needs to be mowed is small. I would estimate 30 square metres in total.

Are all battery mowers heavy? If they are should I be looking at electric?

r.g.nixon, Dec 28, 10:38pm
I got a battery-powered mower a few weeks ago. It is very light. Got from Dick Smith, Australia. Free post.

But if you have a Bunnings store, they had some at reasonable prices also. I didn't know till after I got the DSE one, which was 'Certa' brand.

I thought modern cordless mowers had similar batteries to cordless power tools, so weight shouldn't be an issue?

timbo69, Dec 29, 7:25am
The makita battery ones are light as. do he happen to have any battery power tools?

I had a 2 stroke lawnmower (till it hit a rock and bent the crankshaft. )
I found it light and easy to start and use, it requires mixing of the oil and petrol before use though.

But if I had a nice tidy flat lawn that I mowed regularly I would get one again.

So long as its not hard grass like kikuia (sp) need 4hp to cut & collect that . . Ihad 3 HP & lasted nearly 4 years before it died , had to use it on full throttle all the time , do battery electric have that sort of grunt ? .
