If you can stretch to a self-propelled, they truly do make it quicker. I had a John Deere self-propelled for years, 5 HP, saved quite a bit of time.

Just got one recently, they all do the same job so don't see the point in spending heaps but didn't get the cheapest, got the next one up which had a solid catcher (not fabric) and the Briggs & Stratton engine with the priming button.
Got it at a good price from Mitre 10, not going to a specialist shop for something as mundane and a lawnmower.

Husqvarna use a Briggs and Straton 750 ic engine $850

This guy is right ,I have bought a 2nd hand Honda self propelled and it is the easiest starting cleanest cutting(4 blades) strongest bodied mower I have ever owned (over 20 in 30 years.)

OP, See if you can find someone who re-builds second hand mowers with new engines etc, You can then get more for your money. I guess a wider bodied mower will likely save time, too. Self driving can also help.[/quote]

Only buy 4 stroke and a soft bag catcher is best I think.

If you have a bigger lawn, get a Toro. 22" cut and self propelled.awesome finish and easy to use. only down side is height of cut isn't quite as low as others around,

Cheers will do :)

dagon1, Jan 13, 7:35pm
i not had a hard catcher before only soft.whats wrong with hard 1 !

dagon1, Jan 13, 7:36pm
was just trying to find best deal for my buck and im only guessing that them same mowers will be more if i went to a mower shop wouldnt it!

alistacamel, Jan 13, 7:41pm
Not necessarily.Mower shops can buy models that aren't available to mitre 10 etc, and vice versa. and everyone knows that customers shop around these days.Plus, mower shops are more likely to sort you out with what you need, as opposed to just anything.

how about some sheep

They also generally discount for cash and give it a free service after a few hrs use. As mentioned they have better quality than the chain stores and will look after their customers when it comes in for a service more than if you had bought it from Mega10.

Nz ers cut their lawns too short and wonder why they brown off so bad in summer, cut them longer and they stay greener. Plus nice and lush and springy to walk on. Still just as smooth when cut.

Out of these three I would choose the president 2500.it has a more powerful engine so you can mulch, and stronger handle (the bottom section is looped), but you could get more for your money too.

Those are 18' mowers, and http://www.buywright.co.nz/mowers.html is a link to an auckland based dealer for a 19" mower with 20% more power again, for the same price.I don't know whether they charge freight or not.

there are other options, and most will be available in town, too.It shouldn't be daunting, as they are only features, and they will all cut your lawn. It's just a matter of which features are important to you.

Hey thanks for your advice and help much appreciated :) i think i will go with what you said the President 2500 AL combo it says $795 but they said i can get a $100 trade in for my old mower so then its only $695 which i can just stretch to :) if i had more money i guess the options are endless i guess but i think this one will do fine for me for years to come :)

Also whats the difference between the engines Rapid Start engine and the Primer engine im going for cheers

alistacamel, Jan 17, 7:04pm
Not a lot on that front, as they actually both have a primer.Nothing misleading, just highlighting different features in the ads.The Primer engine is 30cc bigger andhas about 12% more power.

Have one of these. Motor has been great, but a lot of problems with the self drive. Also it blocked up badly if grass was abit lush or slightly damp. After reading reviews, bit the bullet and bought a self drive Honda. Used it for the first time today to mow my longish, lush damp lawns. Most impressed.
Edited to say the Honda has 3 cut positions lower than the lowest on the Toro. Because I mow 2 lawns at different heights, can now alter by one lever rather than having to do each individual wheel.

Try having the rear wheels 1 notch higher than the fronts if it is clogging up. Works well for me.
