Lemon tree problem

kevpat, Jun 4, 10:39pm
My tree has a good crop of lemons but most of them are rotting on the tree and falling even when they are only half ripe. Have never had this problem before - is anyone else experiencing this. I live in Northland.

too much rain/watering?

Brown rot. Google for treatments.

Very possible. Brown rot has a distinctive 'sour' smell and develops as beige coloured areas on the fruit. Best controlled by skirting the tree, by removing all foliage/branches less than 0.5m from the ground. Avoid bare earth under the tree thereby preventing rain splash infecting lower fruit, which then spreads further up. Remove any fallen infected fruit from the area to prevent it infecting the soil/mulch under the tree or directly to the remaining fruit.

Frost damage can also revert to brown rot but unlikely to be the case in Northland I guess.

Thanks wasgonna and harm less for your replies. This has answered my query. Hopefully next years crop will be back to normal - except for the guava moth that has been causing havoc in my fruit trees.
