It is my dream laundry. I never had one at my old house and I couldn't believe how hard it was to get the building company on board with my idea. Of course these are guys who don't consider a laundry a work space. I spend a lot of time in my laundry as it also doubles as my place for potting up plants. Very multi use.

Somewhere in the deep dark corner of my mind is a little light saying you have to have a laundry tub. Not sure if that is still the case but might pay to check.

maybe put the whole laundry in the garage (if u have one), as that seems to be the norm nowadays

I would recommend having a drain in the floor for when the washing machine or sink overflows over half the house. Mind you I have not had any overflows since my brother stopped living here. I sold him my wet&dry vacuum cleaner.

Laundry tub very handy for cleaning large items such as oven racks. Good sized pantry with power points and wide shelves to take microwave, toaster etc.

I can see why some people are concerned about no laundry sink. but seriously we just don't use ours. If I need to soak something I'll use a bucket. Other than filling the dog bowl its redundant. I'd rather have an under bench laundry hamper and pull out cool drawer. It's not likely we will sell. we've just moved in. Thanks for everyone's ideas. lots to think about.

Exactly!
Currently I have 3 drawers - the utensil one is way too deep. Would rather have 4 - a shallower utensil drawer then a drawer for tea towels even if it does take a bit from what will become the 3rd drawer!
And make them easy slide! My drawers are so heavy Ieave the bottom 2 partly open to make it easier to pull out.

I don't think I would buy a house if it didn't have a laundry sink lol

Me neither or I would be offering a reduced price as I would have to put one in, or more likely I would move right on and not consider it further. It will reduce interest at the time of sale.
OP says they have just moved in so they are probably not thinking of selling in the near future. If the property is to be sold they will have factored in getting a possibly reduced price.

We are just building, and got consent for the washing machine in the kitchen (small house). I've put in a large enough kitchen sink that it will double as a laundry sink when necessary, but the laundry tub is not required as part of the building code. :)

One small item that could potentially save a lot of mess - some sort of catch that stops your cupboard doors getting flung open during an earthquake. It's always been in the back of my mind, but I've never quite gotten around to doing anything about it.

Yes! that happened to us, but it was our kitchen cupboards. the mess was very hard to clean up.

Put stainless steel on one bench of our kitchen we put in 4 years - integrated sink and the stainless stove is on that side too. Its awesome. There's a reason commercial kitchens are SS We did formica on the other bench - but if I had the $$$ it would have been engineered stone.

A standard height bench you can have 3 perfectly sized drawers - the top one is shallow for utensiles.
Soft close on the drawers - you'll never go back. Make sure there is clearance for them to be fully pulled out too and still be able to walk past.
Dish drawers - for the same reason that drawers are betther than cupboards

This! When we do our kitchen I am replacing the cupboards with drawers. The laundry tub has been replaced and I now have a draw instead of a cupboard. Nothing gets missed or pushed to the back now.

Adjustable shelves in the pantry, so you can customise as products change packaging and routine grocery shop preferences alter.
And a decent broom cupboard that takes the vac.

light in the pantry

If you have any of those awkward corner cupboards, consider a big lazy susan sort of thing. My son and DIL have two in the house they just bought. It's got three levels and just swivels around.

I have a small one and a big one next door to it. I couldn’t be without. Means I can use both at same time or wash my hands in the small one while something else is in the big one.
(dont worry I sanitise the sink after I wash my hands lol)

we we have a very bright one, fantastic! It’s actually one of those small Fluoro tube lights about 50cm long?

Consider the height of your bench top. I think the standard height is about 870mm? If you are tall you might want to go higher.
