Electric fly zappers

Does the bulb have to be working for the grid to be alive?

I have one and the black light is blown and the grid isn't zapping anything, just wondering if it's worthwhile getting another bulb or whether the capacitors have failed?

I have two. One doesn't work because the switch doesn't work. I was thinking of putting another switch in but I have other things to do.
The bulb is an LED and won't be faulty.

No led bulb in mine, it's a blacklight incandescent bulb.

Without the UV light going it wont attract anything

Sorry I thought you meant the tennis racquet zappers.
I have a UV zapper that still works. I don't use it now because I have screen doors and don't have any insects inside.
I have wondered if the UV light is necessary, and maybe a compact fluorescent bulb would do instead, as they are 10 times cheaper.

Insects excluding mossies are attracted to UV, A fluoro will work but maybe not as effective.

I had an experience with a LED lit fly zapper. On paper it seemed a good thing with energy savings. In 3 days however, it never attracted 1 fly although there were plenty flying around. I put it down to the LED lamp being only a blueish colour, rather than emitting UV light.
The TrMe Trader concerned refunded the cost, to his credit.
Now looking for a UV Fluorescent tube lit one.

Get one of these, I've given up repairing the 240 volt one, got the UV lamp going but no power to the grid, son bought one of these battery operated tennis rackets and if's quite fun trapping and zapping the flys.
