I have noticed these trees (presumably natives/.endemics) growing around my area in Kauri Park Birkenhead. I had just returned from the South Island and immediately thought they were beech trees - but I knew that wasn't possible due to nearness to sea-level. Close-up the foliage is different - it kind of looks like minature Gingko foliage. The trunks are very straight and look similar to a young Kauri. Any botanists out there?
tanekaha or celery topped pine, although not really a pine at all?
