Door to door tree trimmers

What's the general consenus on this - we need some trees trimmed and wish to get this done cheaply and are currently getting arborist quotes.
The neighbour has used the door to door ones and was very pleased and I like the look of what was done.
I am nervous about any potential liability though. However the arborists are much more expensive

Use the cheap guys at your risk. What are they likely to damage . fencing, house roof?. I presume like the guys around here they are offering a cheap job for cash so no money through IRD, no ACC levies paid etc. Best check out if you are liable if they injure themselves while on your property

Also check your insurance. If the wind causes damage to your house or property by blowing over a tree or branch you are covered but if someone cuts it and gets it wrong you are not covered.

forget the insurance stuff - winds blow and things happen

Door to door guys tend to be bad news, if you do a search you can find articles about some of the VERY bad experiences people have had.
They generally have to go door to door because MOST of there people who hire them wont have them back.
