Painting door frames etc.

Been painted for 25 years and need a freshen up. Will sand of course but do they need to be undercoated.

After 25 years you will hit bare wood with sanding, I would definetely undercoat

Unless formulations have been hanged - do not use acrylic pant on both the frames and the doors.

The paint tends to bond one to the other.

Why do you say that Zac? (A genuine question)
I was told by a painter that you can put oil based enamel over existing oil based enamel and get good adhesion. It doesn't seem right to me.

It's already painted so if in good condition, not flaking, I would just lightly sand and top coat it myself.

Might not hurt to give a bit of a wash with sugar soap & hot water - just to be remove greasy fingerprints etc.

wash the wood work before you paint it to get rid of hand grease and fly spots
