Hi folks. anyone know where I can buy a mango tree to grow? Also interests in a pawpaw tree and pecan nut trees. Appreciate any help. Cheers, Karen.

I don't think mango trees would grow in NZ;
Their seeds sprout OK in a hot house (break the seed's hard shell first) but the young trees never survive being more than about 30cm tall for us here.

I've heard of 2 mango trees growing and fruiting in NZ. One was in Kaitaia, one was in Auckland. The trees arnt available to buy, you'd have to grow your own. Mountain pawpaw you should be able to buy from any garden centre that stocks Incredible edibles fruit trees as I know they supply them. - assuming that they will grow in Nelson?

I had never heard of mango growing NZ so its interesting to know that some plantings have been successful.

I suspect Nelson winters could be too cold for a lot of the subtropicals.

We had pawpaw tree growing by back of the house in Auckland Eastern suburbs where I grew up-can't remember it fruiting but it became quite large

Try Roger's Garden Center at Mangere Bridge, he'll know if it is possible to grow + if available
