Koru reminded me of our first ever trip to Rarotonga 3 years ago.As we entered the airport, there was an intoxicating perfume of frangipani filling the whole room-I had never smelt it before, and it is now a lasting memory.

Funny how smells stay with you and take you straight back to where you first smelt them. Today its my Lilac it just reminds me of England a a child out with my grandmother. Happy days. What a lovely thread

Mahoe (whiteywood). Quite a bit in the bush around my house and it's all flowering now - a powerful honey scent.

I've never been able to really smell the michelia figo . perhaps it just isn't within my nose frequency! But my favourite at the moment (just finished flowering) would be the smell of my Michelia yunnanensis

Oh yes lupin too I think it is of a similar family, and the one I couldnt remember is Hawthorn I think, the memories of riding along roads lined each side with these plants, there is nothing quite like it.

Queen of the night, Port wine magnolia, pennyroyal and jonquils.
Also some but not all roses. An apple or orange tree in blossom is so wonderful.

beebb3, Nov 1, 7:56pm
All of the above lol, and also Viburnum Carlessii, burkwoodii etc. Yes some of the species rhodos, nuttalli, lindellyii, can't beat boronia megastigma, I could roll in that smell, its just so intoxicating, and reminds me of my childhood, mum used to always wear it on her lapel, how often do you see flowers being worn on a lapel now! very seldom. Cannot beat fragrance! especially near where you walk in and out of the house. Happy 'sniffing/smelling' all.

Lovely lot of comments - can smell them when you read this! One thing I missed was genista. Also love penny royal - great planted near BBQ's, as when you walk on it, the scent repels mosquito - mine is down the drive. The scents were very strong yesterday, it was so hot.

Come on, there must be more scents people have coming out in the garden, to keep the post going a bit longer.Watering the garden in early evening is lovely at present - everything is growing so well at present.

matthews4, Nov 8, 5:55pm
Another unusual scent we have at present - our neighbouring dairy farming spraying the cow poo from the cow shed on the paddocks, but that is part of living in the country.Used to it, after 15 years living on our lifestyle block. Also, smell of bonfires from tree trimming, now it is dry enough to burn them.A good fire is over very quickly, with dry material.
