Cutting seed potatoes in half?

Several people have told me to cut seed potatoes in half. Does any one do this? I was worried about disease.

That's an old trick. Best to coat the cut surfaces with wood ash to protect the 'wound' from infection.

Yes you can cut them a lot smaller than into halves as well.
I've never coated them.

Edit to say make sure each piece has an eye.

You can. the bigger the seed potato (or piece) the bigger the crop generally. but if you only have a few go ahead. make sure each piece has a sprout on it.
