Can someone tell me if the leaves from a Banksia break down in the garden? It seems to take our forever and now I am wondering if they are bad for the soil?

No not bad for the soil but they do take forever to breakdown if a large leaf variety. I would be inclined to remove them.

Cones make for good burning material , ive got 4 on my property & collect hundreds for the fire . Burn fairly quick though .

They can grow into a very tall tree too, especially if surrounded by a competing canopy from other tree's. Tui's love them. The leaves are similar to pohutukawa and other leathery leaves, go dry and take forever to breakdown, even if mulched.
