Dead tree in a large pot?

niffer13, Sep 19, 6:46pm
I have a Dead tree in a large pot the top has been cut off. There is no way I can even rock the stump to try to get it out. Is there anything I can do to start the stump rotting?

Cut it. down the middle

Potassium nitrate,

You can buy it on trademe.

1) Drill holes in stump (biggest drill bit you have)
2) Fill holes with chemical
3) Cover in water
4) Repeat every couple of months until you can see it starting to rot :)

If you can plug up the hole in the pot and fill it with water it might make it easier to remove. Probably have to leave it a while to soak.

Yes, I'd soak it. On its side, water pressure from a sharp jet of hose water will remove the potting mix (it'll need replacing anyway) and make the stump and root mass easier to remove. Messy job, but effective!

Another tip could be to get a pruning saw straight down into the pot near the rim and cut as much as you can through the roots, in a circle, keeping near the rim, will help to loosen the whole thing.

Can you tip it? I've used a hose or water blaster to get rid of the soil and then able to lift the root system straight out.
