Slaters eating peaches in tree how do I stop them?

I have healthy peach trees with peaches not too far from ripening and also plums. The slaters are up the trees on the fruit having a good feed. I have not got mulch around the base of the trees and have also put slug bait but that hasn't stopped them. Any ideas?

you may have to spray with an insecticide to get them out of the tree, then put a grease band around the trunk
