Sad Lemon Tree

Can anyone tell me what might be wrong with my lemon tree. In the last couple of months the leaves have all yellowed, curled and fallen off. I picked half a dozen lemons off it just before this started happening. The tree gets plenty of water. Next to it is a lime tree which is thriving. I have attached a couple of photos

Get the lads to pee on it.

Take it out of the pot and give it a good feed of citrus food and water. It may be root bound in the pot.

They are doing that, I wondered if it was too much

Get the women to pee on it.

looks like for some reason it has lost it's roots, could be
1 too dry
2 too wet, is drainage adequate?
3 too much fertilizer that has burnt the roots, stop peeing on it, flush it out with water, ie water it so the water runs freely out the bottom of pot and then liquid feed with a week solution of liquid fertilizer, such as epsons salts at 1 teaspoon per 10 litres plus a liquid fertilizer at half strength,
or it may be past it and would be easier in the long run to replace it and the potting mix it is growing in, good luck

Thanks will try these, wonder if it might be easier to start again. Everything that happens to the lime tree happens to the lemon strange that the lemon tree has reacted differently.

Mrs B here. Depends a lot on the actual plant you bought. Could be a dud (I have gone through a few lemon trees in my time). They hate being shifted, but you could definitely repot. Perhaps into a bigger pot to give the roots room, with fresh, good soil or patio or potting mix. I feed mine around the drip line (where the leaves on the outer part of the plant would be if it had any). Don't overdo it, and don't let the boys pee on it until it comes right. It looks rather burned off.
One thing, when putting something like a lemon tree in a pot, make sure you have something in the soil or pot that will hold the moisture. I have a place I buy coconut fibre from, you add water and it fluffs up to around 10 times its size, I line all the outdoor pots and the drier plants in the garden with this. Have found it makes a huge difference to the moisture retention in the pots and how well plants do in the drier months.

It looks like herbicide spray contact. It's not taking in enough water.
If you're watering a lot, I've had plants in pots collapse suddenly from root rot. Only found out when I tried to re-pot and there was just a mouldy stump left under the soil.

That sounds more like over watering at some point. If you do not get the balance of water and air (which is what soil needs to be the correct mix to support plant life) there is no room for air, and the plant roots will develop mould.
