Pigmented sealer and skim coat on old gib

I have stripped some wall paper off. Is it best to pigment seal the old gib BEFORE skimming the walls to help stop stains and harden up damaged on the gib paper etc for sanding.
I thought you did, but builder says no.

My plasterer says yes.

Yes for sure. Sand with 100 grit then pigment seal

Who is doing it? The builder? It is hard to say if it is necessary without seeing it, though generally it is better to seal, it can make the plastering so much easier. I personally think pig seal is over rated as I have found it to be ineffective at stopping moisture getting through ie unsound paper will still bubble.

You have to seal walls first as plaster doesn't stick to the old wallpaper glue left behind.pigment seal but don't use resene sure seal it's rubbish too glossy

We used a product called Dulux Prepcoat Sealer Binder. It stops the paper that's left on the wall blistering by binding it back to the gib.
