Cutting firebricks, how would you do it?

Howdy guys,

Bought some new firebricks to replace the broken ones in our woodburner and unfortunately they are 5mm too big! The bricks are 230 x 115 x 25mm and it is the 230mm dimension I need adjusted.

What would you recommend to cut them down to size? Was thinking of calling a paving company & asking if a box of beer would be fair swap for them cutting 5 bricks down to size.

Any ideas?

I used an angle grinder with a cheapo diamond blade on mine.

Fire bricks will be pretty soft. Will take you 20 seconds.

Old hand saw.

I'd probably use a hacksaw.

Diamond blade needs to be water cooled to be best, and the angle grinder can buck a bit, not nice, Also water and power not a good mix. The proper diamond saws are a sealed power unit. OP , make sure you use a RCD plug in the power cord, and put it in at the power socket.

You can get diamond blades that work dry that will mount on an angle grinder. As long as the piece you are cutting is secure, there will be no bucking.

Biggest hazard is noise and dust.
