I have a question for someone who knows a lot about growing Fejoas, I planted 10 Feijoa trees 5 -6 years ago & they are all producing juicy sweet tasting fruit, but each tree has a different type Feijoa from the next tree, does that mean because they are grown from seed, is each tree a different variety Feijoa, say Apollo, mammoth, unique etc, because the trees are grown from seed does that mean there could be a completely new variety, could someone explain how it works, thanks

what variety?

If say 10 Feijoa trees are grown from seed the adult trees produce different Variety fruit but if say 10 trees were all grown from cuttings from one tree, the fruit that they produce would all be the same variety fruit Feijoa isn't that right?

I m not totally sure what variety the 10 Trees were, I lost the label, I think there are Sellowiana, when the trees are fruiting this year, if I take some of the fruit of each tree to a plant shop would they be able to tell what variety they are? That is really my question because all the trees were grown from seed are the fruit a mixture of verities? Cheers

You can probably identify them on-line with a bit of research and some good pictures.

We've planted seven feijoa shrubs 2 years ago. Hoping this next autumn they'll be more productive. They are doing well and are healthy (in Wellington) We feed them every change of season. Last Autumn just had a few fruit but they tasted amazing. We have about 5 varieties, neighbour has two so that will help also with pollination.

Thanks, I see someone has started a new thread under Feijoa - cuttings, there are some good tips there, best time to do fejoa cuttings is Nov - Jan, I am wanting take some cuttings 10 of the 5 year old tree & We also have a 50 year old Feijoa tree, am keen to try the Rooted layerings method, just wondering if you can do Rooted layerings anytime or is best to wait till around Nov - Jan

Hi what I've read on the net is Feijoas like to grow with at least 100 hours cooling off to fruit, they can handle cold around -7 and up to 25 max heat in summer, any hotter than 25 & they won't fruit much or any cooler than around -7 they won't fruit much, they grow in Australia but only have small fruit, & they grow in places like England but because it's to cold are mainly used as a hedge

September is a good month to fertilise the feijoa trees with tomato fertiliser.
