Lemon Tree Help, Please

lifeisgood87, Oct 22, 11:03am
My lemon tree is looking a bit sick, its leaves have slightly curled up and turned quite yellow, there are still some green spots on the leaves but the majority of the have gone yellow, plus some of the leaves have fallen off.It has heaps of flowers on it so not sure what happening with it. Does anybody have any ideas about what I may have done to it!

sounds like leaf curl and something else i would take a few leaves down to your local garden centre

Has it had a good feed this spring!

Had a little citrus fertilizer and I have just given it some sheep pellets

It may have psyllids. Take a look at the underside of the leaves. You may find small waxy looking yellowish spots in indentations under there. They do make leaves curl and drop. You will need a good insecticide with an oil added. They maybe hard to kill and take several sprays.

No indents underneath the leaves so not pysllids, which is good. The leaves still have a green skeleton structure even though the leaves are yellow. I have read that this suggests that the plant needs more iron. Any suggestions on how to do this!

Green skeleton is magnesium deficiency. Use epsom salts and sprinkle a small handful round the tree if under a metre, more if larger or you can choose to dissolve some in water and water it on. Repeat at intervals. Nitrogen deficieny shows up with green patches between the leaf veins.

Citrus tend togo a bit yellow in the winter as the cold weather stows the uptake of nutrients but by now it should be greening up. Start of spring every year give it a good feed of epsom salts as above poster suggested, and then maybe couple more times over next few months till it is looking lush and green, and citrus fert twice a year. If its a young tree and absolutley smothered in bloom all its energy will be going into producing fruit not leaves or growing, so may pay to pick off some of the flowers/baby fruit

That certainly sounds like me little tree. It is just new and it does seem to be producing loads of flowers. So I will pick some of the flowers off and go and get some epsom salts. How much of the salt do I need to put on!
