I cleared out the junk ( dead palm branches flax and grape vine prunings off my inherited compost bins and discovered the black gold beneath! Yay! Spread a barrowload onto my recently emptied tomato garden. Filled up two green fingers bags and covered up dry twigs to be burned at a later date. Now I can start again and aim for better black gold without lots of twigs and extras through it

I emptied one of my tumbling compost bins tonight, lovely compost, kept about half a bucket full of it, (lots of worms in it) and put into the second tumbling bin, yay, shame theres no lawn to mow for clippings to go in it, its only getting leaves and veg garden waste.

I'm receiving too much assistance in my garden from my cat so made him his very own garden and put mesh over the others. I found him sleeping in it which reallly wasn't the idea but at least he likes it. Put lots of vegie seeds into seed raising mix and ate a lovely ripe fig off my tree. My strawbs are going mad so I must do that dividing thing too.

reggienz, Mar 17, 3:02pm
too wet to go outside in the garden today.

raewyn64, Mar 17, 3:45pm
got out and picked beans and tomatoes before the rain came down. I thought I should grab what tomatoes I could as I am sure the ones still there will split after all this rain. But never mind - it is wonderful rain at last :)

freedreamz, Mar 17, 6:47pm
yes to wet for garden, but not to wet to go to town and get more poly's for planting tomorrow. Might make a start on planting the daff bulbs tomorrow too.

We planted climbers against our newly erected trellis and planted Hydrangias in a recently cleared area. Also prep'd garden beds ready for bedding and vege plants before the much needed rain arrived.

What have I done in my garden today! I danced around it like a silly bugger because it was raining! For the first day this year I didn't need to water anything! Thank you Lord!

reggienz, Mar 22, 2:12pm
Cut all the extra leaves off the tomatoes.Picked the ripe ones, tried a ripe jalapeno, nice! can't wait till the rest ripen up.

They are green and yes they do eat mint.

We now have planted out leeks, onions, caulis, peas popped through, swedes germinated. Pumpkin grew itself, and is huge now. only tiny pumpkins though as yet. Stray tomato doing well.
Basil still going, although I pulled some out.

freedreamz, Mar 23, 5:29am
This past week I have continued to tidy veg garden, finished filling one compost barrel, started filling the other, planted just over 200 daff bulbs, then yesterday went to a mates who is moving and dug over 600 daff bulbs out of her gardens, she kept about 50 and I brought the rest home, shared some with another friend, guess what Im doing this weekend. most of them had shoots on them so they have to go back into the ground asap.

reggienz, Mar 24, 2:37pm
Sat and waited for my broad beans to pop up, dug a bucket of spuds, cut a cabbage for tea, and picked some jalapenos. A really busy day in the garden, lol.

stevee6, Mar 24, 3:11pm
Still taking out weeds and summer stuff - must plant silverbeet and broad beans, and add compost here, there and everywhere before we get some real rain.

freedreamz, Mar 27, 8:54am
nothing been donw in gardens this week huh!

We are eating dinner out of the garden every night, silverbeet that has gone mental, apple cucumbers (2 plants) that we pick 20 odd cucumbers off every second day (people can only eat so many cucumbers), so we share with half of tokoroa, carrots that are oh so yummy, combine everything together (farm meat included) and we have a home grown meal

Planted out broccoli silverbeet cauli cabbage and red cabbage, dug over the broad bean patch, picked beans and toms

honzee, Mar 27, 7:26pm
I picked all our corn (40 cobs for the freezer plus some smaller ones for the chooks) as army worm was starting to get into it. And I cut back some of the stalks and chopped them up to go in the compost heap. Picked tomatoes, borlotti beans, zucchini & dug some spuds for dinner.

reggienz, Mar 27, 7:33pm
Picked more tomatoes, apple cukes. Dug some spuds and picked some silverbeet for tea. Just made a couple of nice big egg and bacon pies.

cleggy, Mar 28, 12:37pm
