Oh I see. I don't know much about hot weather things since we can't grow them here. They look cute though - do the two look like they will fruit!

lythande1, Nov 19, 12:36pm
You can. You just need to time it between spring frosts and autumn frosts. A glasshouse helps.

shabbychic8, Nov 19, 2:33pm
I have tried - in and out of a glasshouse. I find I even have trouble growing pumpkins. Doesn't help that we live up on hills that snow all the time in winter

littlemissy1, Nov 20, 1:45pm
What about using those polystyrene boxes.even in the glasshouse! Would give them extra warmth when the ground is cold.

littlemissy1, Nov 20, 1:47pm
They might if they get a chance to grow lol. I thought about how yummy they would be char grilled nom nom nom

shabbychic8, Nov 20, 3:03pm
are they spicy!

littlemissy1, Nov 20, 5:33pm
No, sort of like a normal capsicum.I love spicy though!

jarjarbinks01, Nov 20, 8:24pm
Littlemissy--my dad says to sprinkle white flour around your plants--it gums up the snails and slugs apparently and they can't move--worth a try I reckon--I'm going to put some around my cabbage and caulis and see what happens.

shabbychic8, Nov 20, 10:05pm
if that works then it's a nice cheap, natural alternative to derris dust etc.

littlemissy1, Nov 20, 10:44pm
Ooh ok.I will try that, anything is worth a try especially if it is safe for the fur kids and cheap too. Will get some more in the shopping, thanks to dad for the tip!

jarjarbinks01, Nov 20, 11:36pm
If you sprinkle flour or talcum powder over ants--they scarper really fast--hate it--it doesn't kill them tho--but a good deterrent near houses--I have tried this.

jarjarbinks01, Nov 20, 11:38pm
I was going to plant broad beans, pak choi, turnips, barlotti beans and radish today--but I have run out of puff--tomorrow is another day.

littlemissy1, Nov 21, 12:07am
For some reason the ants are attracted to my small peach tree (this poor little thing is only about 3 foot tall) so I have just gone and made the baking soda/golden syrup mix and put in a container at the base.hope they blow themselves to bits! *evil laugh*

shabbychic8, Nov 23, 12:03am
so all my planting was done ten days ago and there are already potatoes breaking through the mulch, microgreens and lettuce ready to be made into a salad, and everything else is almost twice the size.

Yay for warmer weather!

littlemissy1, Nov 23, 1:04am
Tomorrows my day.got lettuce, pak choi, melons and sunflowers to plant, its such an exciting time, my garden looks so cool. Oh and a few weeds to get at while they are small.

shabbychic8, Nov 27, 3:10pm
So here is a little story.

I planted out 12 Cos lettuces in the old blue recycling bins - one of them was just filled with potting mix and the other was fillled with potting mix too but had been sitting under the kitchen window for months catching the scraps I was chucking out. When it came time to plant I just kind of forked the scraps over into the soil and planted on top.

Well the two bins are side by side now and 6 of them only looks slightly bigger than when they were seedlings and the other 6 are enormous and ready to eat (i kid you not, each leaf is bigger than the slice of bread it would go on)

littlemissy1, Nov 30, 4:50pm
My mum swears by just putting all her kitchen waste straight into her garden shabbychic, I am putting some in the compost and some in the garden to see the results of both and compare. I chop up all my waste like banana peels etc (slice them up) so they can break down faster. I am loving all the growth in my garden with the sunshine.how's everyone's gardens growing!

shabbychic8, Nov 30, 11:52pm
What! No Gooseberries!

You must feel like a complete failure having only planted those things. How embarrassing.

littlemissy1, Dec 1, 2:40am
*grins* Well I am trying, I dig little holes beside the veg and tuck some of the finely chopped waste into them. Too early to see the difference but I cant wait to find out.

littlemissy1, Dec 1, 2:44am
