Its ok on the cold tap. Can anyone suggest what the problem might be!

Depends what sort of set up you have. If its uneven pressure (header tank) the inlet to the header tank could be blocked. If its a pressure reducing valve to the hot water cylinder, the valve could be blocked or faulty, if its mains hot the temp valve or other could be blocked or faulty. Many variables and without more info, no-one here will be able to say for certain.

Thanks , sounds like its not too unusual then! Will do some more homework on what our set up is tomorrow.

Its mains pressure.Any answers!Anyone know a good plumber!. We live in the Brighton area

You need to find a plumber. There must be a restriction either into, or out of the cylinder, and there are various valves on both sides of the cylinder. It's probably one of those packed up.
