Do you stop your mower before removing the catcher

one annoying thing these days is the lack of mowers here that have side chute or the adapter that fits at the back so it shoots the clippings sideways. really saves getting your feet/legs messy. it used to be a standard bit of kit.

My Masport has a big Kawasaki motor, I just throttle it down to remove the catcher.

I just clump it out, but we have a suzuki 2 stroke engine and not much stops that.

Have been mowing lawns for decades and always turn it off to empty catcher. Sometimes there are grandchildren round and you can't watch them all the time. Gives a mower a chance to cool down and stops the racket.

REminds me of years ago, wife worked in a hospital with a hand injury department. She said you could always tell when lawn mowing season came around (spring) as there were finger missing and also toes (jandals when mowing lawns). Mind you, she told me there was advocado season and when the fireworks went on sale too, up went the number of injuries.

My Victa has that. I love it! Victa is a trusted and valuable member of my family. Been with us for 10 years. Lovingly maintained and given a good home all this time. But sadly, he's been relegated to the climate-change horror pile. Too noisy, too dirty, too two-stroke.

Idle it and empty

Best is to get a 2nd catcher so you only have to make 1/2 the trips to the compost heap.

Yet again, Mr Darwin is correct!

Same here although mine is a Castlegarden Testarossa self propelled. It's a requirement in Europe to have an engine cutoff apparently. Makes it easy to clear the shoot if required.

Always turn it off, I prefer my limbs to remain attached!

The ideal situation. the last thing you want to do is encourage the grass to grow. If your motor mower is not on it lowest height setting, at full revs and throwing up a cloud of dust, then you are not mowing the lawns properly and you are just buying into the lawn mowing "make work scheme." Instead of pouring petrol into the mower, just cut out the middle man and pour it directly onto the lawn. fixes the lawn growing problem for a month or two !

As soon as I let go of the handle it turns itself off. Not difficult to restart it.

I don't turn mine off but I throttle it back to an idle, remove the catcher and then push the mower forward a tad and that frees up the pile that is always there sitting in the back, for me to then pick up. No need to turn it off, just have to keep your wits about you and keep thinking about what you are doing all the time.

Haha the exact opposite here. Mulch 90% on 4 then plenty of grass to grow again for a fortnight later. Only way to go but I would say that wouldn't i😅😅😅

i leave it running, but i shake it and the mower when removing the catcher so all the grass goes into the catcher, n we have a serial clipping blockage mower the grass hardly goes into the catcher without a good ol shake lol
