New kitchen renovation-what do I do with old stuff

helen_nz2, Oct 26, 5:49am
The good news is . I'm putting in a new kitchen . the bad news is, I have no idea how to dispose of the many things that are being replaced e.g. stove, some cupboards, kitchen table etc etc. I thought there would be places that would purchase houselot furniture and accessories but I can't seem to fina anyone on Google. I don't really want to try selling individual things on Trademe. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Habitat for Humanity, Freecycle, perhaps Womens Refuge. Won't be easy but some one will take it.

Our old kitchen went in the skip, the stove to the builder (a gift) , and the table and chairs to the Sallies.

I was hoping to sell some of it, to offset the cost of the kitchen. Everything is significantly more expensive these days than when I first bought this house.

Have you thought of listing it as a bulk lot on TM?

Definitely try selling it, when we upgraded we sold the old cooker, some joinery and the stainless steel kitchen sink (makes a good fish filleting sink!).

You might not make heaps of cash if joinery is old, but some is better than none!

We had one leftover joinery cabinet that became storage for the shed - I'm stoked we didn't have to pay to dump any

Although we haven't done it, daughter has shifted heaps on TM when doing up houses. You might be surprised how easily they sell and you are at least based in an area where there are a lot of people.

Depending in how outdated it is, i'd put the whole lot as a kitchen lot at $1 res or pick the best things and sell them seperate.

The appliance place where I bought my stove took the old one. Builders, or anyone for that matter, might be interested in the cupboards for garage storage?

We have The Renovators Centre here and they bought my friend's old kitchen. They didn't pay very much for it but it was a quick and easy option to get rid of it.

I put mine on Trade Me, Sold the stove for $600.00, fridge $500.00 and the rest I listed for $1.00 reserve and it sold for $15.00, it saved me the $40.00 dump fees

Do you have a local On Line Garage Sale page for your area? Depending on the area you in it may be called Neighbourly or Market Place. People always wanting stoves or fridges in reasonable condition and working order. Cupboards for storage in sheds etc

Put it outside your gate. Some kind hearted person may steal it and relieve you of the problem.

No, you put a $25 price sticker on it, then they'll steal it.

Recyclers yard? Might not get a lot, but anything's better than dumping it.

Ours went into our garage to use for storage cupboards, drawers etc. If you list on TM try to include phrases like garage storage and shed storage so if anyone searches for those things it pops up.
