I was glad I had the whole lot replaced when the main pipe sprung a leak as the rest of the pipe was marginal and I think would have soon broken again with the earthquakes.

The plumber kindly pointed out that I could get a friend to dig the pipe out more cheaply than he could do it. Because they were so helpful I have used the same company for any other work that needed doing.

The plumber will turn the water off at the toby, then he/she will talk on their cellphone, then leave site for something more important than you. will return later in the day when it is really too late to start anything, so will turn the water on again. Will return a couple of days kater, and start diging up your front lawn, make a real mess and then will stand around looking into the trench and start saying “ gee this is not good. to do the job properly it going to cost you $x,000. “the job will have be postponed untill you can arrange a second mortgage. Then the weather will be no good for the plumber, so job delayed a week, now the trench is full of water so a pump has to be hired and the water will be pumped all over you prize rose garden. If you can get it done in less than a month and with your retirement / holiday fund intact, you will be lucky !

I'm not a plumber, but twice I have dug a trench and put in new plastic pipe. It was very simple, and there have been no problems since.
