Hot water cylinder drips from the weld at bottom threaded outlet. It's obviously an old 1970's copper unit, can it be fixed! In place or removed and welded! It's in very good condition apart from this.Possibly sitting with some tension on the bottom pipe, and moved quite a bit with the earth quakes.

A leaking 40 year old cylinder. sounds like it's done for.

By the time you drain the cylinder, remove ig to weld it up again and install it, installing a new one is a better option. 40 years is a good lifetime for a cylinder.
With the new cylinder you should get a warrant, better insulation & it shouldnt do any damage to your house or floor.
And if you were to get it welded up, the weld is still the weakest point & no plumbers out there will put any kind of warrant on it.

Have you checked that it's not actually the crux nut on the pipe at the top of the cylinder!Lots of those rattled loose in the Chch quakes.Water seeps down between the cylinder and the outer case and drips off the fittings - so it looks like they're leaking underneath.

Thats a good point.

No, you can't fix them. Replacement time.

Tui ad goes here.

Ours started to leak when we relocated our house so the plumber braised it up.12 years`later it was still fine and not leaking.
