Old mower identity please

speeedy1, Jun 30, 9:57am
Does anyone recognise the make and model of this mower?
The motor is not the original but is a Honda GXV120 repower.
It cuts well with the catcher and when the flap is down does a reasonably good job as a mulcher. The wife loves mowing the lawns with this beauty.
Thanks.

The catcher and general appearance looks like a Masport that I have but it is older.

harrislucinda, Jun 30, 11:10am
what about a Morrison

trad, Jun 30, 11:14am
Yes, it looks like an old Masport base to me. The curved handle looks newer.

The rear flap and catcher are different to most in that they are not full width. The mechanism for lifting and securing the rear flap works a treat and is a step up from the normal spring loaded variety.
Thanks for the link Grant. It will take a bit of searching as i am unable to post questions unless i register and pay the nominal au$5 - and I dont have paypal :-)
Do you have a pic of your Masport Paul? Either here or via my listing would be ok.
Do you know from what era Graham so I can try for some images on the net?
The flat front is not usual Masport is it, maybe Morrison as Bob mentioned?
SuperSwift?
Cheers.

I recall mowing our lawns at home as an older boy with one, so about 1960's

Haven't seen that front design before, but the overall look and features seem like an old Lawnmaster model.

If she likes washing the boat and filleting fish you may have found the perfect woman!

Yip made by steelfort engineering the plastic catch on the rear flap gives it away as well as the front design alloy body and the height mechanism with the pressed raising in the arm. Doubt the catcher is original most of them were plastic

Thanks Kiwitech and snoopy221. Now, where to find images of the machine with the correct catcher.
Can you recall if the handle is correct Michael?
It is good to see that Steelfort have been around for quite a while and still here. I will see if they have records but maybe that is a slim chance. If not, some older employee may remember this model.

Lawnmaster

speeedy1, Jul 1, 12:45pm
Thanks Mal. I see that thec colour green is also characteristic of the modern Lawnmaster by Steelfort.
I now recall that I had enquired with them a couple of weeks back about a side throw Steelfort and was told that their easily available records only went back to 2000, the rest could be is storage somewhere.
Maybe an old hand at their plant would be able to throw more light on it.

The one piece Aluminum body is a Masport, but obviously the motor is much newer.

and if I recall correctly they were cast at Blakes engineering in Wanganui, not sure if they did the full build up but they certainly did castings for them - its not the lawnmaster model though, the Lawnmaster name was cast into the front area

Catcher is a modified masport bag catcher the metal tongue went over the back axle and the flap held it on ,the lawnmasters had that handle bar set up like that you pushed the bracket sticking out the side with your foot to hinge handle upwards out of the way while you took the catcher off .

its a lawnmaster which would of originally had a 2 stroke iron horse motor fitted to it. the masport versions were blue in colour.
