I see on the tui website you can grow tomatoes - small and cherry ones up side down in a 10L bucket. I am just trying to think how l can "hang it up" since it will be heavy.

Last week i noticed at either Mitre 10 or Bunnings a special bag arrangement which was sold as being for growing tomatoes upside down.

Wouldn't it be more sensible to just put the bucket up the right way?

Do you mean "trailing"? Could be difficult to water an unside down bucket. Gravity would not be your friend.

Why? The plant then bends it's branches up so it can reach for the light. just another silly pointless fad.

Is there any variety of tomatoes that will grow in pots and hang down?

Mine are in a planter box on the deck - went in 15-9-2017 and now up to one meter high with both flowers and fruit - why bother with the upside down thing when they do real well in the sun right side up?

Trailing could look very nice, but they require a lot of feeding and water and a hanging basket would struggle to provide enough of either. Large pot on the ground/deck is much more likely to be successful. We use a plastic 200L drum cut in half just for one plant.
