Hi Ive got a pallet wood seat I need to weather proof and have been looking at water based linseed oil timber stains from miter 10 like aquamax and similar, deckmax . they are cheaper than the other timber stains and varnishes and I was wondering if they would help my seat last a few years longer. I am after the cheapest options. Thank you.

Metalex (Green or clear) would give you a good protection before staining, but to get the best results, having the timber very dry so it soaks well in.

Just use some boiled linseed oil & turps,7 parts turps to 1 of linseed, anything less & the linseed could prove sticky & not dry, have used this recipe for yrs,it works well & is cheap.

But pallets are free, so why not make another. They'll last quite a few years if you just keep them out of the wet

Linseed oil. Use 7 times for 7 days, then 7 times for 7 weeks, then 7 times for 7 months and the wood will last just about forever.
