Taking a cutting from winter sweet

cranberry12, Jun 24, 10:26pm
My mother passed away almost 5 months ago, she always picked some of her winter sweet for me, I went to her house today and picked some, the new owners take over in just under 3 weeks, how do I go about taking a cutting to develop roots?

Get some rooting compound and soak the stems (cut them just below the bulgy part) in it. Stick them in new compost and keep them at 10-20C with plenty of water. They'll take off, it's a really nice smelling plant and in fact grows a bit like a weed once it's become established.

Sorry to hear about your Mum. I miss my Mums daphne but wasn't able to get a cutting. Good instructions here and right time of year too.

Thank you, I have realised they have wee seeds, I'm going to try growing plants from them.

Thank you, I'll try this if the seeds I discovered don't work.

Why not try both ways, seeds will be so very slw t make a decent sized plant and wintersweet should root fairly easily from cutting. Yuo may even find a rooted piece you take from the plant.

Seeds will take much longer if they are indeed successful.
I would try taking the cuttings .

Think l would try cuttings too as seeds will be super slow. Don't know if it's true of Daphne but. sometimes seeds don't come true to form. .
