HOME MADE RAT BAIT

cantabman1, May 13, 9:53am
Just made up some home made bait, as we get rats under floor and in the roof each year in spite of cutting back tree branches.
Went to Bunnings and purchased some wall plaster powder. At home I mixed it up with some cinnamin [sorry] and sugar, and placed it in the two spaces.
One can figure out what will happen next.

This has already been tested. The worst that will happen is a rat with a sore arse.

will he die being a model

and if it doesn't wipe its bum properly the plaster will set and block the hole. Pressure will build up and the rat will explode and there will be rat from arsehole to breakfast - end of the rat. So maybe it does work.

Oh right. sure.
Seriously? People believe this stuff?

I have used cornflour & plaster of paris with success.

It sounds a potentially very cruel method.

I too think this but is it any more cruel than dying from internal bleeding? I do not know.

bloody knorra, that,s a long tail lol

Cornflour; that's a good idea. I am going to check the baits today, and see if they have eaten any. I will probably be able to see their foot prints :-]

Oh it works alright. It was sold to South Asian country some years ago, when they had an explosion of rats, and it worked very well.

Best ever rat bait I have ever seen, is a pair of pet rats in a cage.
Rats are very social creatures & build community's.
We are looking after a couple (in a proper steel cage) & the smell go the better of us so we put them in the garage.
I had a fair idea that they would attract other rats & mice from around the local area so nailed a bait block to the shed wall next to their cage & for 3 days running & I had to put a new block up each day.
Next block after that lasted 2 days, then 5 days.
Latest block is still there untouched for over a week.

I look forward to your report. There are plenty of Youtube videos showing the recipe and distribution of the bait but no comment on whether it works. One guy mentioned that the plaster bait was very popular but when the rats kept eating it he spoilt the test by throwing out some commercial bait blocks.
In the testing I mentioned 2 groups of rats were fed on plaster of paris or portland cement based baits for 14 days with no fatalities.

You may well be correct, but I do not seam to have anymore activity going on in the roof space, although I did see one quickly scamper away from the compost heap yesterday.

An old timer told me that you warm cement powder, let it cool and lay it near the rat trail. The rats eat it and it sets.

Why bother, just buy tin of brodificoum pellets for$18 from RD1 .I had mice chewing the insulation off my downlights .I could hear them scuttling around at night & they would come out & get into the pantry & eat anything not in a tin . Threw handfulls in the ceiling & 2 weeks later no more mice
