Feeding tomatoes

Those of you who feed their tomatoes with liquid fertiliser, do you also apply the fertiliser to the foliage as well as around the base of the plant? It says in the directions on the bottle that this can be done ( not in direct sunlight though ). I've never done this before. My plants are in a tunnel house and the sun is filtered.

No, on the base of the plant only, you are feeding the roots so that the fruit will develop. You don't need to feed the foliage. 🍅

Professional hot house growers only feed the roots. Ditto capsicum plants which they manage to grow to 2.4m high.

only thru roots as will burn the plant

I've used foliar feed on tomatoes, that crystalised stuff, but there seems to be little bonus, given the risks and ease of feeding through soil.

Thanks for the replies. These are the same thoughts that I've always had.
