Raised Vege Garden Weedmat

trademegal, Feb 25, 3:04pm
Hi Would like your views on using weedmat under 300mm raised garden bed that will be used for vegetable growing. Will it hamper or aid drainage? Will it actually stop any weeds? Will it hamper growth eg carrots what else. Any other pros/cons.

Only real reason for leaving it there now is that we have covered the entire area in weedmat. Now added the raised garden beds on top. If we take up the area under the vege garden now am afraid weeds will grow round outside of beds.

Thanks

Please don’t use weedmat, it’s incredibly labour intensive to pull up again if you want something else, when we bought this place, it was covered in the stuff, wow it was a lot of work to remove. Cardboard thickly put down, does the trick much better and eventually rots down, impossible to eliminate weeds on top tho, lots of mulch.

God no. Nasty stuff, kills your dirt, no airflow.

Cardboard = Rancid Soil.
