This has been a great year for my tomatoes. I am down to the last few left on the vines. Not too bad for me, as I was picking them before Christmas. There are usually a few on the vines when I rip them out, but they are small and wont ripen by the time they are big enough.

Same, a fantastic year, just ending. I found the heirlooms way out performed the modern. Best of all were Black Krim & Pink Brandywine. ETA What did everyone else find the best/worst?

My tomatoes usually last until about October. Most plants have died already. Shall I plant some more? The shop tomatoes taste terrible.

We don't have a garden so have to grow all our veges in pots. Grew a low acid tomato 'Oxheart Albenga' from Oakdale Organics for the first time and while the yield was low (likely due to the poor growing conditions), the tomatoes we did harvest were a good size and delicious. Will definitely hunt out that one again next time. We're in Auckland so the plant we have is still flowering but I don't know if we'll get any more tomatoes off it.

For some reason ours grew wonderfully well but the tomatoes refused to ripen on the vine so we have lots of green tomatoes in our pickles this season, however the ones left on the vine are ripening now, I know that tomatoes will ripen after being picked but we do prefer them ripened on the vine, this year we grew money makers, they are an older variety which we grew commercially back in the days !

Mine still going, and the capsicums. Grapes just finished, passionfruit just finished, beans going like mad. Time to get caulis in.

Our best tomatoes were Dad's Delight and Slicer (big and meaty), Earlygirl (early, very good flavour) and Roma. The longest fruiting was a medium sized yellow tomato called, I think, Jaune Flamme, which is still fruiting well when most of the others have been pulled out.
The biggest disappointment was Sungold, which has a good flavour but a very thick skin and splits readily.

I planted lots of heirloom varieties but over the course of a turbulent early summer I lost my labels and had to just plant the young plants without identification! Very annoying. I had lots of orange toms and a few red and a LOT of cherry/teardrop ones.
I'm just dehydrating the last of my crop right now (and will store them in freezer or packed in oil). I also used up many green ones in a large pickle recipe. This year I am going to be a little more careful with my plant IDs!

Cauliflowers are well along & capsicums still going here too, also eggplant, beans (tired of them now) & passionfruit. Interesting to see what results people have in different areas.

I stuffed up this year with tomatoes . too many small varieties planted & not enough big ones for the freezer & sauces etc . still have a heap put away for winter, though. Some of the best producing plants were self sown. Next year I'll not make the same mistake.

Agree with you about Pink Brandywine . fabulous fleshy tomato. Also had some heirloom little yellow and orange ones they were lovely as well.

A friend gave me a couple of heirloom, but they were planted late by my standards and had a disappointing yield in comparison to the others.
Brandywine, big beef, earlygirl , kumato, and dad's delight all did well.
I usually plant my first ones around Fathers Day. Sometimes a cold snap can make that a mistake, but usually they get up and going before Christmas.

I love "Sweet 100" have just finished = I have them in a large pot on my north facing sunny deck got over 350 off them this year. my Husband grew full sized ones in the garden - very poor cropping this year!

Tried four different varieties in the hot house. Campari was certainly the winner. Sweet 100s certainly taste great but didnt yield that well.

Great season for my orange toms - Chef's Choice and Jaune Flamme, both from King's Seeds. Have frozen all excess which makes great soup and pasta sauce etc. Best capsicum crop ever too. Actually a very good season overall here in the middle of Chch, except for blackboy peaches which rotted on tree from the heat and lots of rain.
