Neem oil is made of many components. Azadirachtin is the most active. It reduces insect feeding and acts as a repellent. It also interferes with insect hormone systems, making it harder for insects to grow and lay eggs. Azadirachtin can also repel and reduce the feeding of nematodes. Other components of neem oil kill insects by hindering their ability to feed.
However, it did not get rid of our Passion Vine Hopper. Had to resort to mavrik.

Neem oil is supposed to be bee friendly provided that it is not sprayed directly onto bees - I did a bit of research because we keep bees. However, I have initially used Neem granules in the soil and am hoping that this has an effect before resorting to spraying which should be done in the evenings once the bees return home for the night.Neem oil also needs to be sprayed every 3 days to be effective on insects such as white fly.I suspect other annoying insects need this too.

The worst issue for bees and spraying is the surfactants. They coat the bees body and they drown. Spraying at dusk is safest bet, even with bee friendly sprays.
