I had a cabbage tree start growing at the base of the steps up to my deck and its now about 3m tall. A while ago I dug up another one from another part of my garden and transplanted it on the other side of the steps and its now about 2m tall and healthy. I want to even them up and thinking about cutting the top off the 3m tree but not sure if that would kill it?

Cut the top off the 3m one and there's no guarantee that the regrowth will be at the top of the stem.

Beasts of things once they get their adult leaves, mess mess, they would block our spouting. We sawed it off way down and now it has regrown from the bit that's left. it has really hard wood. REALLY hard!

The wee one will probably catch up but they will still look good anyway, as they are.

You must have a really blunt saw. REALLY blunt! Cabbage tree trunks are fibrous like Punga, they cut easily.

Are you really talking about cabbage trees ? they have the same leaves all their lives, and as above soft fibrous wood, others have juvenile leaves like lancewood which change as they mature.

As new growth appears on the cut or on the trunk just keep snapping it off. Eventually the tree will stop sending out shoots. Eventually. Worked for me !

Thick old ones are harder. Apparently back in pioneer days hollowed out cabbage tree trunks were used as chimneys.
