Advice over failed floorboard match.

Teally sorry My39th, I agree with gabbysnana, they look like two different woods to me, as the grain pattern is entirely different, appart from anything else. I've got rimu that looks like the pinkish one.

Hi there and Merry Christmas!
Hope everyone had a nice christmas.
I have a problem. I have replaced the particle board flooring in half of the lounge with Tawa as this is what is in the rest of the house. The lounge is to be a feature with this gorgeous floor. However it feels like a massive fail and its my fault! I think.
The Tawa I source is secondhand and treated clears,. its pale and a bit green once sanded. I have grained tawa and it has come up pinky with dark grain once sanded and coated with a clear coat.
Any advice is received with much gratitude and need!
One person said lift thee tawa not used in the bedrooms (which will be carpeted) and get the builders to lay that as it will match.
Ive googled limewashing.
I feel so silly as i should have thought about this ahead of time. first world problems I know.

Have you already coated the older timber ? if not and it is not sealed you may be able to used a timber stain to bring the two areas together, maybe not totally exact but better than what you have , you can dilute the stain so that the grain shows through maybe even give lighter areas two coats of the diluted stain, worth a try anyway where it is hidden for a start, you can get the correct timber stain for the type of timber. good luck

You might be able to stain one side of the floor to match. You'd have to sand off the existing varnish.

Is the green side treated with tanalising?

Hiya
thanks so much for you adivce & luck annies3.
the floor sander and I discussed coating the lighter side with stain and he decided and has put put a 1% stain on the Right hand side. It is a bit darker than the photo now. I think it actually looks worse than the photo I have put up on TM.
trade4us 2 thanks for your response. I am also wondering what it will look like once is lightens wit UV etc.
I have done this 10 years before with pine and it was really pink due to treated timber but became more golden with age and UV? I think.
Do you think time and UV will even it up at all?

my39th, Dec 27, 3:00pm
OOh yes I think the green is treated with tantalizing.

LOL@ tantalizing! like a pony tail?

Sorry I cannot help with your query except to say that the colour of your floor on the right in your picture is what Tawa usually looks like.

Short of a dark stain to try to minimise the difference of colours, I'm not sure what can be done to improve the looks of your floor.

Look here for standard Tawa colour:

isnt the one on the left nz matai?

nzjay, Dec 28, 8:57pm
So, which is the new. the pinkish on the left or the one on the right?
To me, the pink looks like a coloured timber treatment, the right side looks correct.(clear boric treated?)
I doubt you'll get them to match without heavy staining, which will defeat the purpose of a light coloured tawa floor. Superb wearability though.
Natural tawa will yellow with exposure to (sun)light.

Maybe,, Try a little Oxalic acid on the red colour to bring it closer to the other
