I've got a neon sign (approx 1 meter of neon tube) that has no power supply.
Question is what type of power supply, ballast, etc. should I be using with neon?
(Thanks in anticipation of replies).

Hard for anybody to answer this without the details of the particular fitting you're referring to.

A transformer that produces about 10,000 volts, give or take a 1000.

Neon use extremely high voltages - not something you buy from lighting direct or whatever. Best to contact a neon sign specialist.

Hi thanks for the reply. We're talking 2 runs of 25 mm red neon at approx 1.5 meters each. Have you had experience with neon?

Yes. be very careful of the high voltage involved! It can kill.

I've had considerable experience with high voltages (just haven't had a thing to do with neon), can you add anything to the discussion?

You also need some HV cable for it. Not something you will get from the hardware store. Even doubt any Electrical wholesalers will stock it. Also shrouds for covering the joints and restrictions for access. Not something you can make portable. Needs to be in a fixed position. Call the Experts

It's nothing like the very low current, high voltages you get with an automotive ignition system for example. This will kill.
