Electrical Knowledge anybody?

Why would a 'Main isolator switch' switch itself off! This morning we lost power to our infinity (hot water), some things in the kitchen (on one side in particular) and our washing machine! (also on THAT side of the house). The kitchen light worked however as did everything else in the house! I went to the switch board and the only switch that was down was the main isolator switch! I thought you had to manually turn that off!

If you still had some power on then it isn't your main switch, sounds like an RCD or MCB. Was does it look like - what writing does it have on it!

None of the other fuse boxes (seperate boxes that have different colours on them) were down, the one that was says DPN vigi (highlighted in orange) and has another switch in the same 'box' that says C-20. But it also has a sticker underneath that says 'main isolating switch'.but there is also another 'box' with a switch that says 'mains power' !

Might be easier if you take a photo.

Hate to point out the obvious, but when a switch is down it is usually on.

your wrong there.
circuit breakers and RCD's are up when they are on and down when they are off.
Its not your normal light switch
