Toilet water running.

When cistern is full there is still a bit of flow coming down continuously, hence our pump running every few mins. What part of the plumbing in the cistern needs replacing? Thanks

the piece in the middle - when you push the button down , it lifts and then goes down again
at the bottom of this is a BLACK round seal - it will need replacing
easy to do

The seal may be OK, to check turn the centre piece a half turn, there may be some grit under it and turning it may help.

Ok thanks, might need to take model details in and grab the part.

popped_out, Feb 7, 9:57pm
Do you know what the seal is called?

aj.2., Feb 7, 10:00pm
Sammie.

popped_out, Feb 7, 10:15pm
No, lol. Im not going in asking for a sammie seal.

aj.2., Feb 7, 10:31pm
LOL, good to see your laugh, I often at the ocean, and all seals are called sammie.
But as I posted above, try turning the centre part as there may be grit under it.
Also make sure the ball cock is not rubbing against the centre part, as this may be pushing it to one side and that will let the water flow down the gap.
Easy to bent the ball cock arm so that it is free.

Good, now when you've done that, pop round and do mine please?

As a temporary fix turn the seal over that can work.

Some cisterns will overflow into the pan if it overfills, usually down the centre of the tube that lifts the flush mechanism, giving you the same problem. Have you checked this? If it is this, then the seal in the valve may need replacing, or bending the ball cock arm down slightly so it puts more pressure on the seal in the valve to stop the excess water flow.

Bunnings have a section for these parts, all the seals/washers etc, just ask someone & they will help, often grit can sit under a seal & allow a bit of water through, sometimes a good clean & it's all sorted

A simple fix is to take the lid off the cistern and hold the ball cock bar down to the bottom for several seconds to allow the incoming water to squirt through and blow out any debris which might be blocking it. After that bending the bar to the float down can help it shut off the incoming water supply

If the water is running from the tank/cistern in to the toilet pan its the washer on the underwater valve. As a temporary measure take it off and turn it upside down but for a few cents at any hardware store put a new washer on.All you need is the name of the cistern.
