Growing flowers from seed

Ive got a planter box and would like to grow flowers from seed in there, that will flower for a decent amount of time. Im in Wgtn so its still rather cool at the moment. Preferably low maintenance ones. Any ideas are appreciated.

You can't go wrong with pansies - the frilly ones are rather gorgeous and even some of the small flowered ones come in lovely colours. They seed too so you have a continuation of plants - definitely a bonus.

. until powdery mildew strikes like it did to mine last year. I'm getting "Poppy California Jelly Beans" and "Antirrhinum Candy Showers" from Kings Seeds to grow this year.

I was in the warehouse today. All the seedlings for summer are coming in now, I was going to do the same, start in my wee greenhouse from seed, but at the price they are for seedlings, going to do that instead!
