Sticky tape residue - how to remove

supercat3, Sep 6, 3:59am
When we recently shifted some cupboards (meltica) we held the doors together with packaging tape. Unfortunately the tape has left a sticky residue which I am struggling to shift. Tried turps, nail polish remover, and meths. The meths does soften it, but struggles to dissolve it. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

we use tea tree oil.

Nail polish remover contains acetone in varying strengths. But you can buy a bottle of it undiluted at the chemist. Also a small amount of Jif on a damp cloth, rubbed on could work. Have never tried the oil, but give that a go too. Good luck.

Turps will do the job.

Try Fuelite from Mitre10 or maybe any hardware store.

De-solv it from mitr10 as it won't damage any surface you put it on

De-solv-it brilliant, wouldn't be without it, buy from Mitre10 or the like.

eucalyptus oil.

WD40 on a rag.
It doesn't dissolve it but as you rub away the oil stops it re-sticking and eventually all the residue ends up on the rag.

De-Solvit lives on the shelf at PaknSave. About $6.

paora-tm, Sep 6, 8:19am
Really? 750ml Trigger bottle is $30 at Mitre10.

No suprise, Meths solvent is almost twice the supermarket price at the Warehouse.

morticia, Sep 6, 10:10am
Most people probably would never need a 750ml bottle of it, a 125ml from the supermarket lasts for ages for simple, household jobs.

De Solvit. Removes anything from everything. Have used it for the very purpose you require.

works every time.

brightlights60, Sep 10, 11:49am
This, a lot of supermarkets have it. I wouldn't use acetone, you could damage the surface.

delshamic, Sep 11, 1:15am
DONT put acetone on any plastic surface

DeSolvit vs eucalyptus oil?

Desolvit claims to be a "citrus based" cleaning solution but its MDS says it's 40-80% aliphatic hydrocarbon, i.e. naptha or white spirit.

I'd stick to eucalyptus oil :-)

Petrol . NO not kidding.
Best glue remover around,
Test a small area 1st to make sure the surface is ok & then go for it.
Wipe on . wipe off & detergent clean afterwards
