Opening a door outwards that has no handles

trade4us2, Oct 20, 5:02am
The door will be held shut with a small magnetic catch. I thought that I could have a steel plate behind the door and hold a magnet by the plate to open it.
Any other ideas?

Get one of those pushy out magnetic catches, like on TV cabinet glass doors.
I Fitted one to a bathroom cabinet door the other day, works well.

Get a magnetic push catch

It's a secret door, so it must not move if it is pushed.

It can't be that much of a secret, you have just told half of NZ on a MB.

Put the handle on the hinged side, that will fool them.

Well sorry to point out , but if the steel plate is behind the wood , then the magnet will not be strong enough to attach , nor pull the door open .

You would be better off with a pin hole catch, they hold the door , but only need a needle pin inserted , to hold the catch back , thus allowing the door to open.

The steel plate can be at the bottom of a hole in the door.

A large enough neo magnet will pull on the steel plate through the door. In shopfitting we use neo magnets to hold whole panels onto walls.
