Bumblebees under the house!

The large bumble bees are females and the small ones males-they are really docile and will not chase you like a bee or wasp will but they will bite or sting if accidentally caught in the hand.

Ok, you've educated me in bees! I only get those vicious German wasps at my house & they set up several hives per year & are a pain in the butt!

See some idiot set fire to a nest of bees! Avonhead I think. (sigh) Poor bees, maybe they came here instead, I am not far away.

Is there any way to encourage bumbles to nest in a garden?

if you really don't want them in your garden, just wet the area with a hose for a few days and they will move and set up camp elsewhere as they like to be dry.i have had a nest under my deck for 2 months now and they are so cute to watch, my cat has been sitting at the entrance batting the poor things as they fly in and out.

Yes go and have a look on You Tube and it shows you how to make a house for them to sleep in using a cake tin and cotton wool, really easy. I have done this.
