In September I was given an orchid in a pot and it has been happy inside beside a window. The flowers are now turning brown and I am unsure what to do next. Do I leave it in the pot and put it in a sheltered spot outside or put it in the ground! I live in Taupo. Our overnight temperatures at present are around 10 degrees. Many thanks.

If it's a cymbidium, then sheltered spot outside is fine. It will like a bit of water, but won't like to have soggy or damp roots so it might pay to keep it from sitting directly on the ground. You will need to protect it from frosts though, so will have to bring in when it starts to get frosty.
