Cinearia advice please.

terachaos, Oct 19, 1:45pm
I am atotal novice at this gardening lark :) but would love to grow some cinearia.I have fond memories of the flowers as a kid. I have bought some seedlings, but the info I have so far on growing conditions is that they like bright light but not direct sunlight; so I'm totally stumped as to where I should plant them.under the eaves of our house perhaps!
Would appreciate some advice please.TIA

my grandma had great success with hers under some huge old camellias.

mine do great on shady side of the house under the eaves

My parents shady back yard is full of self sown cineraria, it's a gorgeous riot of pinks and purple when they are flowering. Under the eaves should be fine - anywhere shady but not really dark will do.

lol - I grow mine in the direct sunlight, where it gets stinking hot - I've always had probs with them dying if the conditions are too cool or damp.Mine are flowering like crazy. They are prone to bugs though, so keep an eye on them.

Mine self-seed under camellias and natives, where it is dappled (love that word) shade - but light.Love these flowers too.I've never bought seed - they just 'arrived' in my garden.

They don't like frosts.so make sure you plant them where the frost misses them.

I have an area planted with them that is quite shady. they are underneath the eaves, and are planted surrounding my camelias. They have just seeded and seeded, and the area is now thickly planted. When they stop flowering you just shake the plant and let the seeds fall.Mine are blooming now, and are lovely.
