Need roof over deck to stop water

infinityjrc, Apr 20, 8:22pm
Just wondering if anyone has had a roof put over a deck not keen on an awning would like something permanently fixed to give shade in summer and keep the majority of deck dry in the winter; do you need a permit to built one of these!Any recommendations for companies etc that do these on or around Aucklands North shore.

Had the pergola covered at the bach with Duralite, then strung shade cloth underneath, give protection from rain all year round and sun in winter, pull shade cloth back in winter to get full light in house. Easy to do and no permit required cause your not putting an exterior wall

I have a deck with a suntuf roof and it is great to sit outside while its raining. In the summer I put an awning underneath the framing to give shade. Cost about $1500 all up in materials.

We are having a bbq roof erected at the moment. It is not attached to the house but fitted up to just a few mm from walls so that the plaster seal and plaster brick underneath was not broken. It is 32 sq metres. The council requirements in Tauranga are: anything over 20 sq metres requires a permit. It is in a high wind zone and required an engineers design to be used by the draftsman. It is made out of powdercoated galvanised steel with a polycarbonate roof.

Just doing it at the moment. Usin g 5 rib polycarbonate as the cover over a wood frame. Only frame up so far. Its under 20sqm so doesnt require a permit in Lower Hutt.

Archgola is one brand and I think another is Frisco. but they are pricey.

Mine is all finished, looks great and with the fold up clothers line installed we will be able to dry clothes outside this winter.

Twink19 did you do it yourself!Would be keen to see some pictures of it if you wouldnt mind posting it as it sounds as though you have exactly what I need; I would need to get someone to create it also; but if you dont mind sharing would love to see how it looks. Thanks for your post

Don't need to go to the office to see that.
See plenty of them digging in to my bank account as it is.

I am looking at a DYI roofing the clearlite stuff like tin roff but clear and I plan to build the surround for it with Manuka (think thats what my mate has) thing poles wired together and plant fast growing plants at the sides.I am looking rustic and cheap. So frame of natural wood and roof of clearlite.

Eddited to add.I know 20 yrs ago in ChCh if it wasn't a closed in building it didn't need a permit.I was selling Real Estate at the time and this lady had an adhock sun room but as long as the door making it closed could be removed it wasn't needed to be permited,And was a sliding door that could come off to make it from a sun room to a semi enclosed deck area. The same when a friend wanted a new garage.Built it inside the one that there then pull old one out.Think outside the square.
